Months after the completion of a major road elevation project in Dagupan City, pedestrians and traffic officers are raising safety concerns as the streets still have no pedestrian lanes or road markings.
Dagupan City Public Order and Safety Office (POSO) Chief Arvin Decano said the situation has been a long-standing problem.
The issue has been pending since the completion of the Arellano road section.
Residents and students say they feel unsafe crossing the streets.
“Kada tumatawid po kaming mga magkakaklase po, kinakabahan po kami kasi hindi po sila humihinto eh, lalo na po pag walang traffic light,” Marc Nelson Gonzales, a student, said.
POSO enforcers also said that the lack of pedestrian lanes not only puts lives at risk but also causes traffic build-up.
Authorities also pointed out that in other parts of the city, existing pedestrian lines have faded already due to long use, making them hard to see for both drivers and pedestrians.
The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) Region 1 is yet to release a statement as of press time.
