The Bureau of Customs seized more than P605 million worth of smuggled cigarettes from a warehouse in Plaridel, Bulacan.

The operation was conducted after authorities received an intelligence report about suspicious activities in the area.

During the raid, officers discovered 8,647 master cases of imported cigarettes from China and Vietnam. The packs had no BIR tax stamps and graphic health warnings, both required under Philippine law.

Three individuals were arrested at the warehouse and are now facing inquest proceedings. They will be charged with violations of the National Internal Revenue Code, regulations of the National Tobacco Administration, and the Customs Modernization and Tariff Act.

Authorities said the registered owner of the warehouse will also face charges.

The arrested suspects have yet to issue a statement as of press time.
