A househelp stole reportedly a total of P118,000 in cash from her employer in Jaro District, Iloilo City.
The woman was hired through an online transaction by the Gonzales family in Barangay San Isidro, Jaro.
A closed-circuit television (CCTV) footage showed that the househelp, identified as “Liza,” 28 years old, from Tubungan town, Province of Iloilo, was walking around the living room. Later, she went up to the second floor. Afterwhich, she was seen going down the stairs bringing a plastic bag which contained allegedly the money.
The maid was further seen leaving the house.
It was learned that she started working with the Gonzales household on August 15, 2025.
The incident took place dawn on August 20, 2025.
In coordination with members of the suspect’s family, Gonzales found out that "Liza" has been implicated in other incidents of theft and that she already left her residence.
"May narinig akong may case ng panlalason. Nagising ang nanay ko dahil sa ingay ng aso nang umalis siya. Paggising ng ina ko, after na nang nakalabas na siya,” Gonzales added.
A case for qualified theft was filed against the suspect.
Captain Mavin Laraño, chief of Iloilo City Police Station 3, has reminded employers to be cautious about hiring help even from legitimate sources.
“Kahit online na legit ang pinapasukan, mag-require talaga tayo ng mga pertinent papers like police clearance, barangay clearance at ID ng mga prospect,” Laraño said.
