A driver and operator of a transport network vehicle service (TNVS) was shot dead while he was driving his sedan in Barangay Balulang, Cagayan de Oro City evening on Thursday, August 28, 2025.

Based on investigation, the victim had just dropped his passenger off when he was shot by motorcycle-riding gunmen.

Police said the victim sustained at least seven gunshot wounds, including fatal shots in the head. The attack may have been planned carefully.

“Kini siya giplanohan gyud ni siya sa mga suspek kay fatal man kaayo pagkaigo, gi-ulo man gyud siya,” Police Station 4 Commander, Major Peter Tajor, said.

Investigators have yet to determine the motive, but they are looking into a possibility that the incident may have something to do with love.

“Wala gyud ni siya gasaba kung na ba siya’y threat. Ang iyang naistorya sa iyang mga suod nga naa siya’y nauyab nga usa ka igsuon nato nga Maranao,” Tajor added.

Authorities are also investigating the last passenger who booked the victim, who disembarked near the crime scene.

Police said they have contacted the passenger but declined to appear in person out of fear.

“Na-contact na namo tong last (passenger) through cellphone lang pero nagdumili siya sa pagpatim-aw kay accordingly, nakulbaan daw siya, babae, so nakulbaan daw siya ato na gipasaligan, assurance, pero iya man na katungod. Padayon gihapon natong imbestigahan,” Tajor said.

Police are reviewing the CCTV footage in the area and are calling on anyone with information to come forward and coordinate with authorities.
