At least 22 families were displaced after a fire hit a residential area in Barangay 76-A Bucana, Davao City over the weekend.
According to a report by GMA Super Radyo Davao, police said at least 16 houses were destroyed and six were damaged.
No one was reported hurt in the incident.
The fire was put out after nearly two hours.
Authorities are investigating the cause of the fire and determining the total cost of damage.
The families affected are staying temporarily at the Manggahan gymnasium.
The barangay council has already extended immediate assistance to the fire survivors, including food, tent, and beddings.
Barangay officials are also calling for more donations such as clothing, among others.
Cagayan de Oro fire
Meanwhile, two buildings were razed by fire in Barangay Kauswagan, Cagayan de Oro City on Friday, August 29, 2025.
According to the Kauswagan Fire Station, the fire was raised to second alarm after it spread to another three-story building.
Authorities said the fire spread quickly as the second floor of the building where the fire started was made of light materials.
The damage to property reached more than P600,000.
“Ang 2 storey man gud high dri clutch siya nga establishment unya tungod sa iyang sunog sa iyang aso ang pikas nga balay naapil siya og kasunog which is ang 3rd floor lang which is caused siya sa aso kay ang aso init baya then nag-cause siya og flash over which nag-ignite tung 3rd floor sa pikas nga balay,” Kauswagan Fire Station Chief, Fire Inspector Precious Marciano Cortes, said.
A resident who lived in the building said he woke up to find the fire already big, prompting him to wake the other occupants up and evacuate. They also tried to go back inside to retrieve their belongings but failed as the fire already spread rapidly.
“Na alimukawan ko ba kay init na kayo pagmata nako dako naman kayo ang kalayo pero ako pa gisulayan og kabya pero dili na gyud madala. ang tagtungod dayun dinhi si angkol pati mga bata ako gisaka dayun dali-dali nilibot naman ang kalayo,” resident affected, Jolito Dalahay, said.
Authorities have yet to determine the possible cause of the fire, but they have already ruled out arson.
No one was injured or killed in the incident.
“Kani siya nga case is under investigation pa siya so dili gyud mi makadali-dali og disclosed kay kani ongoing pa pud ang trabaho sa atong mga investigators,” Cortes added.
