Government forces confiscated alleged smuggled cigarettes worth around P16 million at a checkpoint in Iligan City.
Troops of the 2nd Mechanized Brigade of the Philippine Army coordinated with the police in putting up a checkpoint in Barangay Camague after receiving information regarding an attempt to smuggle cigarettes into the city.
Authorities flagged down two vans at the checkpoint. One of the drivers escaped while the other was arrested but was released later.
During inspection, authorities discovered nearly 400 master cases of cigarettes.
The items seized were turned over to the Bureau of Customs (BOC).
Investigation into the incident continues.
