A barangay councilman in San Josefa, Agusan del Sur was killed in a road crash involving three vehicles in Digos City, Davao del Sur.

According to a report by GMA Super Radyo Davao, police said the 43-year-old victim was driving the rescue vehicle of the Barangay Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (BDRRMC) with 14 other passengers when the accident happened.

Based on investigation, the victims were heading to Davao City when their vehicle was hit by a cargo truck coming from the opposite lane on Davao-Cotabato Road, Tres De Mayo.

The motorcycle following the rescue vehicle also got affected by the collision.

The truck driver allegedly lost control when a piece of wood reportedly jammed the brake pedal.

Because of the impact, the barangay official and the passengers sustained injuries. They were brought to the hospital, but the councilman died after a few hours.

The truck driver was taken into police custody.
