Top-ranking officials of the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) in Western Visayas are set to file their courtesy resignation on Wednesday, September 3, 2025.

The tendering of resignation was confirmed by DPWH 6 Director, Engr. Joel Limpengco in a text message to GMA Regional TV One Western Visayas, following the order of DPWH Secretary Vince Dizon.

The order includes DPWH undersecretaries down to district engineers nationwide.

The objective of which is to clean up DPWH from unscrupulous officials.

According to Dizon, the directive is based on a marching order of President Ferdinand Marcos, Jr. on the reorganization at DPWH.

Dizon assured that the order would not affect the security of tenure of officials based on guidelines of the Civil Service Commission.

Dizon is also set to abolish the internal investigation team formed by his predecessor, as the President is set to create an independent commission.

Contractors proven to have ghost projects will be placed automatically on perpetual blacklist and will face appropriate cases.

Residents in Western Visayas, especially those affected severely by persistent flooding due to substandard and sloppy projects, express hope that cases will be filed against unscrupulous individuals.

The Local Government Unit of Iloilo City will not reportedly send anymore a representative to a coordination meeting called by DPWH-Iloilo City District Engineering Office (ICDEO), following Dizon’s order.

Mayor Raisa Treñas said she will wait for the appointment of a new district engineer before she coordinates again with DPWH-ICDEO.
