The City Health Office (CHO) of Cagayan de Oro has conducted fogging operations in areas with high dengue cases.
One of these areas is Soldiers Hill Subdivision in Barangay Bulua, which recorded 15 dengue cases, as of this writing.
Among those affected are the children of the neighbors Mona Gonzales and Mel Balacquit. Gonzales’ three-year-old son contracted the disease and was admitted to the hospital for nearly 10 days due to complications.
There were also reports that their neighbor allegedly died of dengue.
“Ako lang anak ang toddler 3 yrs old ang uban 7, 9 tapos nay isa namatay 22 tapos dira 20 gihapon kapin tapos minyo na,” Gonzales said.
A few days later, Balacquit’s 10-year-old son got infected. Fortunately, they were able to rush her son to the hospital.
“Dengue gyud siya kay ni os-os man iyang platelet then gi abunohan gyud siya ug upat ka bag nga platelet,” Balacquit added.
City Health Officer, Dr. Rachel Dilla, said that the number of dengue cases in the city is not yet alarming.
From January to August 2025, the city logged 46 cases, lower than the 102 cases recorded in the same period in 2024.
CHO is also validating reports that a resident died of dengue.
“Ang dengue all year round man gyud na siya pero mas more on rainy days. So karon gina-expect nato nga motaas siya. When we see clustering of cases pananglitan na’y dengue diri tapos imong silingan naa napud maghimo nami ana og survey tan-awon namo ang population sa lamok ana nga lugar,” Dilla said.
