A 48-year-old woman was arrested in an entrapment operation for selling dog meat in Barangay Ayusan Sur, Vigan City, Ilocos Sur.
The Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (CIDG) said they launched the operation after receiving a complaint from the Animal Kingdom Foundation about the illegal sale of dog meat in the area.
Authorities caught the suspect selling on the roadside, where dog meat was openly displayed. Seized from her were nine kilos of dog meat, a weighing scale, and the marked money used in the operation. They also rescued one live dog.
The suspect claimed that the meat came from a dog that was hit by a vehicle accidentally, but police discovered more stocks of dog meat in her freezer.
She now faces charges for violating the Animal Welfare Act of 2017 and the Anti-Rabies Act of 2007.
