President Ferdinand Marcos, Jr. announced that the power crisis in the Province of Siquijor is over, in a visit on Friday, September 5, 2025.

The President led the ceremonial switch-on of the new Siquijor Power Plant. He cited in his speech an end to the crisis through 17.8 megawatts (MW) of power supply daily through the new Siquijor Diesel Power Plants Project that exceeds the island-province’s peak demand of 9MW.

To recall, power crisis in the province worsened in May 2025 with power interruptions spanning from five to 15 hours almost everyday.

National Electrification Administration (NEA) Head Antonio Almeda and Department of Energy (DOE) Secretary Sharon Garin told the President that works started on August 26, 2025 to August 29, 2025 to put up the generator sets (gensets).

Reaching a solution has been possible through the collaboration of NEA, Province of Siquijor Island Electric Cooperative (PROSIELCO), and Cebu Electric Cooperative (CEBECO) 1 and 3.

Garin assured power sufficiency now that the supply is way above the requirement of Siquijor Province.

“Kahit umakyat sya ng 10, 11, kahit 12 man ngayong taon, suficiente po ang supply natin, dahil we have installed 17.8 MW, way above the requirement of Siquijor.

Almeda takes pride in the solution that need not wait for six months.

According to Glenn Galvan, general manager of PROSIELCO,  at least 15 gensets are set up in the province.

Further, it was emphasized that the solution is temporary for a year, while the bidding for a new power provider is ongoing.

Earlier, the President ordered the shutdown and cancellation of the permit to operate of Siquijor Island Power Corporation (SIPCOR) as power provider in Siquijor Province.

On August 29, 2025, the Energy Regulatory Commission (ERC) revoked SIPCOR's authority to operate for violations to operational and regulatory requirements.

The President, on June 11, 2025, inspected a SIPCOR plant and ordered the DOE, NEA, and SIPCOR to solve the crisis within six months. However, SIPCOR failed to shape up.

Moreover, Galvan expressed joy that the Siquijodnons are assured of a well-lit Christmas season, moving forward.

She assured no hike in power rates.
