Up to 47 families were displaced when a fire hit a residential area in Barangay Central, Mati City, Davao Oriental.
According to the local government, 36 houses were destroyed while 11 others were damaged after the fire broke out in two areas in Calagundian evening on Friday, September 5, 2025.
The Provincial Government of Davao Oriental said a butane gas container reportedly exploded and may have caused the fire.
Investigation into the incident continues.
Heavy equipment was also deployed to clear debris and secure the area.
The Bureau of Fire Protection (BPF) estimated the damage to properties at P441,000.
Affected families received immediate assistance from the city and provincial government, including relief packs, sleeping kits, money, drinking water, among others.
