A firefighter was injured following a fire that razed at least five establishments in Villanueva, Misamis Oriental on Sunday, September 7, 2025.

The firefighter sustained minor injuries during overhauling operation after the fire was put out.

The Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP) said the fire spread quickly as most of the establishments affected were made of light materials.

Among the structures affected were a motor shop, vulcanizing shop, eateries, and a store.

The damage to properties was estimated at P337,000.

“Naa’y natala nga nasamdan pero mga minor rato, like nasamad sa kaning atop pag-overhaul,” Villanueva Fire Station Investigation Clerk, FO1 Andrew Maulas, said.

Residents claimed that the fire reportedly started from the motor shop.

“Naa’y ilang nadunggan nga buto pero naa na’y kalayo daan ayha ang buto so most likely kato kay vulcanizing shop man to pikas ang among lantaw ato mibuto ang compressor ato kay ni-release ang hangin,” Maulas added.

Investigation into the incident continues, as of this writing.
