A 21-year-old man died after he was stabbed by a tricycle driver in Barangay Poblacion Norte, Sta. Barbara, Pangasinan morning on Monday, September 8, 2025.

The victim was identified as Lawrence Indaya from Barangay Dalongue.

Police said Indaya had come from a drinking session in Barangay Maronong with three friends.

The group was on their way to a lugawan when a tricycle driver shouted at them near the town plaza, reportedly annoyed by the loud sound of exhaust coming from their motorcycles.

“Na-inis ata iyong lalaki na naka-tricycle, sinigawan nga itong grupo ng biktima, and then ang ginawa ng grupo ng biktima, instead na huminto is binilisan pa nila. Nag-cause talaga ng ingay hanggang sa mapang-abot sila dito sa may lugawan sa Poblacion Norte,” PLtCol. Michael Datuin, chief of Sta. Barbara Police Station, said.

The suspect followed the group to the eatery where one of the victim’s friends threw something at him. Angered, he pulled out a knife, which led to a commotion. Indaya was stabbed during the incident and rushed to the hospital but did not survive.

With the help of CCTV footage showing the tricycle’s plate number, police traced the suspect to his home in Barangay Ventenilla, where he was arrested.

“Biglaan ang pangyayari. Masakit ang loob namin, syempre pamangkin namin. At iyong sumaksak, sana maisip niya ang ginawa niyang masakit na mararamdaman ng isang tao,” Wilma Carpio, the victim’s aunt, said.

The suspect now faces a homicide charge.
