The Municipality of Dauis in the Province of Bohol has two mayors.

Beginning on September 8, 2025, two mayors reported at the Municipal Hall of Dauis.

Mayor Marietta Tocmo-Sumaylo and Vice Mayor Marie Nickie Bolos-Delgado claimed authority to serve as mayor of Dauis.

Sumaylo stood ground that she remains the legitimate mayor having been elected by the people. She pointed out that she has not received yet an official order from the Office of the Ombudsman, or from the Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG), that removed her from office.

“Naghuwat ta sa order sa Ombudsman para implement nato. Since Friday, naghuwat ta, walay order para ni Miriam Sumaylo to vacate sa atong puwesto,” Sumaylo said.

Meanwhile, Delgado, who took her oath of office as new mayor of Dauis, reported for mayoral duties.

A post on the glass wall of her office reads “Office of the Mayor.”

Delgado clarified that the gesture is about the rule of law and has nothing to do with personal ambition.

“This is not about me, this is not about what I want, and this is not about Mayor Miriam (Sumaylo). This is about the rule of law and respecting government institutions,” Delgado said.

The incident has stirred up confusion among town residents.

The Office of the Ombudsman has ordered the dismissal of Sumaylo who was reportedly found to be guilty of grave misconduct and gross neglect of duty, in line with the granting of a mayor’s permit to a cockpit arena despite the expiration of its franchise.

GMA Regional TV Balitang Bisdak has tried to get a statement from DILG on the issue, and is awaiting reply.
