A 20-year-old man died after the motorcycle he was riding crashed into a parked taxi while reportedly performing stunts along the coastal road in Cagayan de Oro City.

Police said the victim, a resident of Barangay Damilag in Manolo Fortich, Bukidnon, was reportedly watching a drag race in the area when he was challenged to show off, based on accounts of the victim’s companion.

The victim sped up and reportedly performed stunts until the motorcycle crashed into the taxi parked by the road.

“Naghapa sa motor dayun pag-abot sa tulay diha sa Camacawan Bridge mana diha sa coastal road medyo mura siya’g hump ba dili siya level, nawad-an og kontrol ang drayber mao to natagak kuno ang iyang pikas tiil, nagsarasay na ang iyang motor didto nipa-ingon sa right side ug didto niigo sa taxi nga naka-park,” Cagayan de Oro City Police Office Traffic Unit Investigator, Senior Master Sergeant Charles Ebueza, said.

Police added that the victim did not wear a helmet at that time.

Because of the impact, the victim sustained severe injuries and did not reach the hospital alive.

Authorities are also looking into possible sanctions against the taxi driver for leaving the vehicle at a non-designated parking area.

“Pero ang aksidente nga nahitabo, mahulog gyud ni siya nga self-accident, wala man siya gibanggaan. Unya sa layo pa nasarasay na daan ang iyang motor,” Ebueza added.

No charges were filed and the taxi driver was not taken into police custody.
