The National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) is pursuing a man in Iligan City who allegedly pretended to be an agent of the bureau to scam potential victims.
According to the NBI, the suspect allegedly claimed to be an agent while encouraging people to invest in agricultural products.
One of the victims was an American citizen who sought assistance from the NBI-Iligan City after allegedly falling victim to the investment scheme orchestrated by the suspect.
The victim said there was a time that the suspect met with him accompanied by armed men who also introduced themselves as NBI personnel.
"Naa man gud daw check nga gipang issue nga wala mi good so ni anhi siya ug Iligan part sa iyang pagpangita ug justice naka huna-huna siya nga mo reklamo dinhi sa opisina mao nato nagawas nato nga nagpa-ilang NBI first niya nag meet na ingganyo siya kay NBI lage,” NBI-Iligan Agent In-Charge, Atty. Medrobel Ylanan, said.
NBI said several witnesses confirmed that they saw the suspect wearing an NBI uniform and badge and carrying a firearm.
Based on verification with the NBI-Human Resource Management Division, the suspect was confirmed to be not an employee of the agency.
NBI filed charges against the suspect for usurpation of authority under the Revised Penal Code.
“Base sa reply sa certification nga gi-issue sa atong Human Resource Management Division ang NBI walay empleyado o ahente nga nagpangalan susama niining tawhana,” Ylanan added.
The manhunt against the suspect and his cohorts is ongoing, as of this writing.
NBI also urged other victims to coordinate with its office for the filing of additional charges against the suspect.
