A four-day-old baby was allegedly kidnapped from Lingayen District Hospital in Pangasinan after a woman posing as a nurse took the child for supposed medical tests and never returned.

The infant’s parents, Romeo Carpio, 42, and Rocel Pablo, 39, both residents of Barangay Canaoalan, Binmaley, reported the incident to police afternoon on Sunday, September 14, 2025.

Rocel told investigators that a woman in green scrubs and a black face mask entered the OB-Gyne ward, took her baby, and said the child needed a blood test. Nearly an hour later, the nurse has not returned the baby.

“Naka scrub suit, and everything was planned. With the time, or the date na alam nila kung paano lalabas, kung anong araw lalabas, kung anong oras lalabas. Syempre noong sinabi ng nagpagangap na nurse na kukunan daw ng dugo, ibinigay iyong bata,” Edmhar Carpio, a relative of the family, said.

Authorities said there were no CCTV cameras at the ward section and there were no guards present when the alleged abduction took place.

“Through our investigation, mayroon naman tayong provincial security. Siguro nagkulang lang po iyong nagro-roving talaga. Hindi lang sila nakita, visible during the commission of the crime,” PCol. Arbel Mercullo, officer-in-charge of the Pangasinan Police Provincial Office, said.

Police said they have an initial lead on the suspect but withheld details to avoid compromising the case.

“Isa lang po muna iyong focus natin, to recover iyong bata at magtulungan tayo, kung sino ang mananagot. Administratively… siguro may mananagot na administrative case, criminal case,” Mercullo said.

Governor Ramon Guico III has ordered a thorough and speedy investigation, assuring the parents that authorities will exhaust all efforts to locate the missing baby and hold those responsible accountable.

The Provincial Hospital Management and Services Office also coordinated with Lingayen police and assured the family it would do everything possible to help resolve the case.
