Transport group PISTON announced a nationwide transport strike on September 18, 2025, to protest alleged large-scale corruption at the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH).
In Pangasinan, the One Pangasinan Transport Federation (OPTF), which usually does not join strikes, said it is considering participating due to the gravity of the issue.
Some jeepney drivers in Dagupan also said they were ready to sacrifice a day’s earnings to express their frustration.
Commuters, while also dismayed by corruption, appealed to transport groups to weigh the impact on passengers.
“Maaapektuhan din po ang driver at mga pasahero kaya sana po huwag naman,” Mark Lopez, a commuter, said.
Tuliao said OPTF will consider commuters’ sentiments but stressed that their decision will depend on the majority of drivers in the province. Should they join the strike, they promised to inform LTFRB Region 1 early.
The LTFRB has yet to issue a statement but earlier assured that in case of transport strikes, it coordinates with local governments to provide government service vehicles for commuters.
