Authorities seized alleged smuggled cigarettes worth nearly P25.5 million from a boat in the waters of Sacol and Manalipa Islands in Zamboanga City.
According to the Police Regional Office-Zamboanga Peninsula (PRO-9), an unmanned shipment was intercepted during the operation around 3 p.m. on September 12, 2025.
Confiscated from the watercraft were 445 cases of cigarettes.
The items seized were then turned over to the Bureau of Customs (BOC).
PRO-9 Director, Brigadier General Eleazar Matta, lauded the operating unit for the successful operation.
“This successful operation is a testament to the dedication of our personnel to protect our economic borders and uphold the rule of law. We will continue to collaborate closely with the Bureau of Customs and other government agencies to intensify our intelligence-driven patrols and dismantle smuggling syndicates operating in the Zamboanga Peninsula. Our commitment to securing our region from illicit activities remains steadfast,” Matta said.
Investigation continues to identify the personalities who abandoned the alleged contraband.
