Drivers of public transportation in Cebu city have benefitted from the P20-per-kilogram rice program of the national government.
In a rollout for members of the public transport sector in Cebu City on Tuesday, September 16, 2025, at least 500 drivers were able to buy rice at P20 per kilogram.
The 250 drivers were facilitated through the Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB) and the other half are motorcycle-for-hire (habal-habal) drivers through the Cebu City Local Government Unit (LGU).
Each beneficiary was able to buy 10 kilos during the distribution in a warehouse of the National Food Authority (NFA).
According to the driver-beneficiaries, a few pesos can now be stretched to buy more rice through the rollout of cheap rice.
LTFRB 7 Director Eduardo Montealto said that the distribution on September 16, 2025 is just the first, citing that more distributions will follow as there are about 34,000 public transport drivers in Central Visayas.
Cebu City is among five locations that have distributed simultaneously the P20-per-kilo rice to members of the transport sector.
