A policeman is set to face criminal and administrative charges for allegedly killing two people and injuring another in Talisayan, Misamis Oriental.
According to the Police Regional Office-Northern Mindanao, the suspect – a patrolman assigned at the Camiguin Police Provincial Office as a member of the Tourist Police Unit – has been placed under restrictive custody after being identified as the alleged suspect.
It can be recalled that a van driver and male passenger were killed while another female passenger was injured after they were shot inside a van in Talisayan town past midnight on Sunday, September 7, 2025.
PRO-10 Spokesperson, Major Joann Navarro, said the suspect, who sat beside the driver, was supposed to disembark in Balingoan, the town before Talisayan.
However, the suspect reportedly fell asleep during the trip and woke up to find that the vehicle had already passed Balingoan and reached Talisayan.
A heated argument ensued after the suspect reportedly asked the driver to turn back to Balingoan, which resulted in the shooting.
During the confrontation, a male passenger was shot dead when he tried to run while another female passenger was injured.
Navarro said the suspect may not have been in his right state of mind at that time as he reportedly quarreled with his wife in Iligan City.
Based on evidence and CCTV footage, investigators tracked the suspect down in Camiguin.
“Based on the pieces of evidence gathered, a police officer has been positively identified as responsible for the shooting incident inside a van last September 7 that resulted in the death of two individuals and injury of another,” Navarro said.
The suspect has since been disarmed and his firearm will undergo ballistic examination.
Navarro said the suspect will face two counts of murder and frustrated murder charges. Once the court issues an arrest warrant, it will then be served to the suspect.
The suspect will also face administrative charges for grave misconduct.
Navarro added that PRO-10 will never condone or tolerate any offense or crime committed by its members.
“We assure the public that the suspect will face the full force of the law, both criminal and administrative. Integrity and discipline must always prevail in the police service,” Navarro said.
