Police have recommended stricter security measures and a swimming ban at Mini Asik-Asik Falls in Barangay Carmen, Davao City due to safety risks.
The recommendation came after four people were found dead and four others remained missing, as of September 15, 2025, after they were reportedly carried away by strong current while swimming at the Talomo River near the falls on Sunday, September 14.
Several residents went swimming at the river at that time when the water rose suddenly and the strong current swept the victims away.
“Naa’y makalusot. Padayon ang among dialogue sa barangay nga higpitan pa para malikayan ang (disgrasya) aron di na mausab ang susamang panghitabo kay luoy ang mga bata pud. Ang problema, naa’y laing entry, ang uban, mag entry sila dinhi sa Tamayong,” Baguio Police Station Chief, Major Lisandro Bernado, said.
The City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (CDRRMO) earlier said that the Mini Asik-Asik Falls is a danger zone due to its susceptibility to landslides and flash floods.
“Gi-discourage gyud namo nga naa’y maligo sa area,” Bernado added.
Barangay Carmen officials are set to craft a joint resolution with nearby barangays, particularly Tamayong, to ensure there are regular security personnel to monitor the area and stop anyone attempting to swim at the falls.
Barangay Baguio has expressed support for the move.
