At least 22 individuals from six families in Leon town, Province of Iloilo have been evacuated due to continuous land erosion brought about by heavy rainfall on Wednesday, September 17, 2025.
The eroding soil has affected about five houses already, while a footbridge in Barangay Buga, Leon collapsed reportedly past 5 a.m. on September 17, 2025.
In an interview with Felgean Agape, chief of Leon Local Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (LDRRMO) by GMA Super Radyo Iloilo, he confirmed of the number of affected houses and individuals.
The 22 individuals have been evacuated to safer grounds by personnel of Leon LDRRMO. As of this writing, the affected residents have stayed temporarily with their relatives.
Agape said that this is not the first incident of erosion in the area. In fact, a similar incident occurred in 2023 which made way for regular warnings to residents in the area especially when heavy rainfall warnings are up.
Based on the record of Leon LDRRMO, no one was reported dead, missing, or injured in the incident.
Food packs were distributed immediately to affected families.
As of posting time, the Local Government Unit of Leon conducts assessment on the status of the footbridge for the proper intervention and possible rehabilitation works.
GMA Super Radyo Iloilo has tried to reach for a statement from the municipal mayor on the incident and on relief assistance.
