A 56-year-old businessman was killed after the pickup truck he was riding fell off a small bridge and plunged into a creek in Barangay Salaan, Mangaldan, Pangasinan on Tuesday, September 16, 2025.

CCTV footage showed the vehicle overtaking a pedicab before hitting the side railing of the narrow bridge. The pickup flipped and fell straight into the water.

“Siya po ang nag-overtake sa isang pedicab at ito po accidentally nabangga ’yung isang edge ng tulay. Ang nasabing tulay ay maliit lamang. Ang width niya nasa five meters lamang po,” PLtCol. Perlito Tuayon, chief of Mangaldan Police Station, said.

Rescuers and residents rushed to pull the victim from the vehicle, but he was already lifeless when retrieved. Police said he may have hit his head during the crash.

“Possibly tumama ’yung ulo niya. Unconscious agad siya at hindi na ito gumagalaw ayon sa mga taong na-interview namin,” Tuayon added.

The victim was identified as Luis Gabriel, Jr., a resident of Barangay Malabago, Mangaldan. His remains are now at his family’s home, where he is being laid to rest.

His relatives declined to issue a statement.
