The Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (CIDG) arrested three alleged gunrunners and seized loose firearms in separate operations in Davao City and Cagayan de Oro City.
CIDG-Davao City Field Unit arrested two men and confiscated two loose guns in a buy-bust operation in Barangay Crossing Bayabas, Toril District.
CIDG said the suspects, 40 and 39 years old, were allegedly caught while delivering and trading two caliber 5.56 rifles without the necessary permits and licenses.
Authorities added that the suspects are alleged gunrunners and are involved in gun-for-hire activities in the region.
Meanwhile, CIDG personnel also arrested a 53-year-old man and seized two alleged loose firearms, a caliber 5.56 rifle and caliber 9mm pistol, in a separate buy-bust operation in Barangay Lumbia, Cagayan de Oro City.
CIDG said the suspect was allegedly involved in illegal trading of firearms and gunrunning activities in the city and nearby provinces.
“With this accomplishment, we removed from the circulation the instruments of killing, especially these are light weapons, thereby, we significantly prevented crime in the community,” CIDG Acting Director, Major General Robert Morico II, said.
