Two persons who allegedly demanded P2 million from a barangay chairwoman in Lapu-Lapu City were arrested in an entrapment operation.
The two suspects fell in an entrapment operation based on a complaint raised by Jasmine (Daday) Chan, Barangay Basak chairwoman and Lapu-Lapu City Association of Barangay Captains (ABC) president.
The entrapment operation took place at 1:27 a.m. right at Basak Barangay Hall on September 18, 2025.
However, the report made by the City Intelligence Unit of the Lapu-Lapu City Police Office did not specify as to how the alleged perpetrators carried out their threats upon Chan.
Among pieces of evidence seized by the police from the two suspects are cellular phones, bundles of boodle money, 10 pieces of genuine P1,000 bills and 15 pieces of genuine P500 bills.
The suspects are found to be ages 29 years old and residents of Barangay Agus, according to Police Lt. Col. Christian Torres, spokesperson of the Lapu-Lapu City Police Office.
In an interview with GMA Regional TV Balitang Bisdak, the two admitted they are familiar with Chan but did not provide details as to how they met the barangay chairwoman.
The two refused to answer on the alleged extortion of P2 million “in exchange for information, photographs and videos that could possibly ruin Chan’s political career."
Chan, on the other hand, did not issue a statement on the incident despite several messages sent by the news team seeking her side to the story.
She was not also around at the barangay hall when the news team went for a visit.
The inquest proceedings were set afternoon on September 19, 2025 on charges for robbery extortion in relation to cybercrime and grave threats.
