A truck driver, his partner, and their 8-year-old child died after their vehicle collided with a bus along the national highway in Barangay Bued, Calasiao, Pangasinan, evening on Thursday, September 18, 2025.
According to witnesses, the truck was overtaking a motorcycle when it accidentally hit an oncoming bus past 11 p.m.
The strong impact left the truck’s front badly wrecked.
“Malakas talaga ang impact. Akala ko may sumabog na gulong. Paglabas ko, ganyan na ang nangyari,” Ferdinand Ohania, a resident, said.
Ohania rushed outside after hearing the crash.
Rescuers from Calasiao, Dagupan, and the Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (PDRRMO) worked together to pull out the victims.
“Pahirapan talaga kasi naipit sila sa loob. Unfortunately, tatlo ang patay, isa ang buhay,” Calasiao DRRM officer Freddie Villacorta said.
The couple’s 3-year-old child survived and is now confined in a hospital. All the victims were from Sison, Pangasinan.
The bus driver and seven passengers sustained injuries and were also rushed to a hospital. Authorities said it took about 30 minutes to retrieve the victims from the wreckage.
Police in Calasiao have yet to issue a statement as investigation continues. Barangay officials said the highway is accident-prone but noted that warning signs are already in place.
