The entire Ilocos Region was placed under red alert on Friday, September 19, 2025, as authorities braced for the possible impact of Tropical Storm #NandoPH, which PAGASA warned could intensify into a super typhoon.
The Office of the Civil Defense-Region 1 (OCD-1) said all Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Offices (PDRRMOs) have been directed to heighten emergency response.
In Batac City, Ilocos Norte, barangay officials and city responders were seen pruning trees along the roads to prevent accidents during heavy rains.
“Kasi ma’am pag may dumadaan makita nila yung mga punongkahoy kasi ma’am delikado kaya inaalis namin yung mga puno na malapit sa kalsada,” Barangay 17 Kagawad Danilo Gappi said.
Residents welcomed the move.
“Maganda talaga ’to ma’am kasi pag may bagyo, eh kahit malakas ang ulan, walang babagsak na kahoy,” Wayland Maulit, a resident, said.
Mina said local governments may implement preemptive evacuation in flood-prone and coastal areas, as well as near rivers at risk of swelling.
Emergency vehicles and rescue equipment have been placed on standby.
The Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) Field Office 1 said it is also ready to deploy relief aid once needed.
