Two fire incidents broke out in Cagayan de Oro City on Monday, September 22, 2025.
The first incident occurred at past 10 a.m. at Gaabucayan Extension in Barangay 22.
Authorities said the fire spread quickly as most of the houses affected were made of light materials.
“Karaan man gud ni nga balay dugay na pila nani katuig mga singkwenta na ka tuig,” resident affected, Gary Uy, said.
The fire was raised to third alarm and razed three houses in the area.
The Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP) is verifying reports from some witnesses that the fire started from an electric post and traveled through a wire toward a house.
The owner of the house reportedly sustained injuries and was brought to the hospital for treatment.
“Naa siya sa sulod sa balay natingala siya iyang ceiling nagsiga na daw gisulay niya palong ang kalayo but nasunog ang iyang shoulder left and right ug liog,” Macabalan Fire Station Investigator, SFO2 Jesreel Lazaga, said.
The damage to properties reached more than P150,000.
Meanwhile, just as the firefighters had finished refilling their water, another fire broke out in Sitio San Roque, Barangay Lapasan past 12 noon.
The fire was also raised to third alarm after it spread quickly due to strong winds, and because most of the houses affected were made of light materials.
At least five houses were affected, with the damage estimated at around P130,000.
Authorities are still investigating the cause of the fire.
