A fisherman died while several others remain missing after a fishing vessel capsized in Sta. Ana, Cagayan, at the height of Super Typhoon #NandoPH, which also damaged homes, schools, and roads in the province and in Batanes.
The vessel, which came from Aurora province, had docked in Sta. Ana due to bad weather. The 13 crew members stayed inside the boat when strong winds struck, overturning the vessel and trapping them inside.
Rescuers said they still heard responses when knocking on the boat, raising hope that some crew were alive.
One crewman died, six were hospitalized, and six others remained missing as of Tuesday, September 23, 2025.
In Calayan, Cagayan, fallen trees, scattered debris, and roofless houses marked the storm’s aftermath.
A house was flattened, while waves cracked roads near the shoreline. In Barangay Babuyan Claro, winds tore off school roofs and blocked roads with large branches.
In Batanes, waves cracked roads in Sabtang town, while in Basco, residents began clearing debris with the help of police and firefighters.
The Cagayan Valley Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (DRRMC) said assessment of Nando’s impact across Region 2 was ongoing.
