A man died after the wing van truck he was riding fell into a ravine around 20 feet deep in Gutalac, Zamboanga Del Norte.
According to the Police Regional Office-Zamboanga (PRO-9), the truck loaded with coffee and milk products was navigating the highway when the driver noticed that the brakes were not working while traveling downhill.
The driver then lost control of the vehicle, which caused the accident.
“Nung nandoon na sila sa pababa na part ng kalsada, napansin ng driver na hindi kumakagat yung preno. Matigas na daw, so hindi na nakontrol, nahulog na sila sa pangpang,” PRO-9 Spokesperson, Major Shellamie Chang, said.
One of the helpers was trapped when the truck plummeted and did not reach the hospital alive. The other helper and the driver also sustained injuries.
Police said the company that owns the truck has already reached out to the victims’ families for assistance.
GMA Regional TV One Mindanao is reaching out to the company and the victims’ families for a statement, as of this writing.
