Days of heavy rain from Super Typhoon #NandoPH triggered widespread flooding in La Union, submerging homes, roads, and parts of the national highway in Agoo and Sto. Tomas.

According to the Office of Civil Defense (OCD) Region 1, creeks and rivers quickly overflowed, leaving several towns swamped.

At least three deaths were reported, now under validation by authorities. Among them was a man swept away while trying to cross a river in Agoo. His body was recovered morning on Tuesday, September 23, 2025.

“Mayroong tinamaan ng kidlat sa Aringay, La Union and then may isa pa dito sa San Juan, La Union. Ire-recover sana niya ’yung kalabaw niya kaso tinangay siya ng agos ng ilog, kasi nag-river crossing siya, tinangay siya ng ilog,” OCD Region 1 Director Laurence Mina said.

The Provincial Government of La Union said nearly 1,000 residents remain in evacuation centers or with relatives since Monday, September 22. Relief efforts are ongoing as of press time.

“Usually the health problem comes a few days after the baha-baha. Ito ’yung mga leptospirosis, ito ’yung mga may sakit na fever, so tuloy-tuloy ang assistance na binibigay naming, pero sa ganitong paraan we concentrate on the health naman na,” La Union Governor Mario Ortega said.

Authorities assured continuous monitoring and aid for the affected families as communities brace for possible health risks in the aftermath of the floods.
