A huge fire destroyed over 90 houses mostly made of light materials in San Carlos City, Province of Negros Occidental.
The fire broke out in Barangay Rizal afternoon on September 22, 2025.
According to the Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP), at least 87 houses were razed, while six were partially damaged.
Electrical ignition is seen as the the cause of the fire.
“Sa aming initial investigation, electrical ignition ang pinagmulan ng sunog. Sa isang extension, may nakasaksak na another extension at another connection,” said FO1 Rochel Ann Batayola, chief of the Intelligence and Investigation Unit, San Carlos City Fire Station.
Over 60 families, or 300 individuals, have sought temporary shelter at evacuation centers.
“Doon sila ini-house sa Barangay Rizal, ang iba nandoon sa facility. Ang local government ang nagpapakain sa kanila, for one week doon muna sila, while on the process na maibigay ang financial assistance para makabili sila ng materyales,” San Carlos City Mayor Rene Gustilo said.
The fire left behind damages approximately worth P2 million.
