At least five of 17 flood mitigation structures in Iloilo City deemed non-existent, or cannot be located, was reported by the local chief executive to the Mayors for Good Governance.

This is based on the report submitted by Iloilo City Mayor Raisa Treñas to the Secretariat of the Mayors for Good Governance on September 18, 2025.

The projects are being implemented by the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH)-Iloilo City District Engineering Office (ICDEO) under the General Appropriation Act of 2024 and 2025, based on its status report and the inspection done by the Local Government Unit (LGU).

The 17 projects cost over P1.8 billion.

It is the goal of the LGU to enhance transparency and accountability on the said projects.

In fact, the Office of the Building Official (OBO) and City Engineer’s Office (CEO) have reportedly carried out their inspections on the projects.

However, the spokesperson of DPWH-ICDEO denied that the five projects are non-existent, which include the over P48-million drainage project in Barangay Huervana, La Paz District that has been suspended because of repair works done reportedly on related sections.

Two projects worth over P144 million and over P96 million, respectively, are said to be at the boundary of Barangay Calumpang and Barangay Compania Central in Molo District. These are said to be slope protection projects but have also been suspended.

The other two slope protection projects are located purportedly in Barangay Calahunan, Mandurriao District worth P125 million and over P39 million. The construction is said to be ongoing.

The Iloilo City has urged DPWH-ICDEO to coordinate properly with the LGU in implementing projects.
