Rehabilitation works on over P77-million flyover in Iloilo City have started, which caused traffic jam along General Luna Street.

Retrofitting of the Jalandoni Flyover began morning on September 24, 2025, with half of the lane closed to vehicular traffic.

One of works carried out on the flyover is an asphalt overlay.

“Delayed ka na sa traffic, pati ang pasahero delayed rin sa oras. Pero wala ka namang magawa,” Christon Soberano, a public utility jeepney (PUJ) driver, said.

Another PUJ driver, Reggie Gumabas, complained about the heavy traffic the road closure has caused.

“Mabigat ang traffic. Sa halip na maka-ikot ka ng tatlong beses, dalawa na lang; 200 pa yan (bawat trip),” Gumabas said.

According to the Iloilo City Traffic and Transportation Management Office (TTMO), they expect the traffic jam despite the traffic scheme implemented and augmented number of traffic personnel tasked to deal with the situation.

TTMO said that from 6 a.m., only half of the lane from Molo District going to city proper is opened. Inbound vehicles and passengers are a priority.

At 3 p.m. the other lane is opened to give way to motorists and passengers going out of the city, or bound for home.

“Kung pwede lang nga makadaan sa other alternate roads. Maraming pwedeng daanan. Delgado, Ledesma, Efrain-Treñas Boulevard, pwede rin sa Magsaysay Road. Nanghihingi kami ng pang-unawa,” Uldarico Garbanzos, head of the Iloilo City TTMO, said.

Based on the bulletin of the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) 6, the rehabilitation is set to be completed by January 9, 2026 yet. But TTMO said they urged the agency to have the rehabilitation finished by the third week of December 2025.

“Pinapa-expedite natin ito. That is why ang aming request na kung maaari hanggang sa gabi sila magtrabaho para marami-rami ang kanilang accomplishment sa isang araw,” Garbanzos said.

The Jalandoni flyover was constructed in 2009 under the administration of Gloria Macapagal Arroyo, former president.

Rehabilitation works on the flyover were approved in March 2025.
