Thousands of families in Oriental and Occidental Mindoro were forced to evacuate on Friday, September 26, 2025, as Severe Tropical Storm #OpongPH brought strong winds, heavy rains, and storm surge across the provinces.
In Occidental Mindoro, about 100 families or 250 individuals took shelter at the Occidental Mindoro National High School in Mamburao by 1 p.m.
One building reached full capacity, prompting some evacuees to be transferred to the Provincial Evacuation Center at the Capitol, according to the Provincial Information Office.
Residents from Barangays Dos, Siete, Aroma, Tayamaan, and Payompon also sought safety, while provincial and LGU teams extended assistance.
The entire mainland was placed under a preventive power shutdown, with the Occidental Mindoro Electric Cooperative (OMECO) cutting electricity to safeguard consumers, linemen, and facilities.
Power restoration will resume once weather conditions improve and it is safe for inspection and repairs.
