Authorities in Pangasinan urged residents in flood- and landslide-prone areas to heed preemptive evacuation orders as rivers across the province continued to rise Friday, September 26, 2025, under red alert.
“Continuous ang ating red alert status dahil mayroon tayong mino-monitor na bagyo. Actually, may bagyo. So, naka-red alert status pa rin tayo,” Avenix Arenas, Assistant DRRM Officer of Pangasinan, said.
The Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (PDRRMO) reported that more than 600 families, or over 2,000 individuals, are staying in evacuation centers across the province.
In Dagupan City, over 60 families have taken shelter at the People’s Astrodome. Some evacuees used the fair weather to wash clothes.
Lyka Castro of Barangay Pogo Chico said the sudden floods forced them out of their homes. She evacuated with her relatives for the second time this 2025.
“Nasasanay na rin po na ganito talaga ’yung sitwasyon namin. Bahain po dito,”
Meanwhile, floodwaters reached chest-deep inside the home of Amalia Santillan in Barangay Lasip Grande.
“Biglang lumalim. Tapos hindi kami nakadala ng kumot at mga damit namin,” she said.
Health workers are monitoring evacuees, especially children who developed coughs and colds. Medicines are available at the centers.
“Kung may kailangan pang mga gamot, puwedeng mag-request sa City Health Office para madala rito,” Joanne Peñalba, a barangay health nurse in Pogo Chico, said.
The City Social Welfare and Development Office is also addressing the other needs of evacuees.
As of Friday morning, the PDRRMO said the Marusay River in Calasiao remained above critical level.
Four other rivers, the Sinocalan River in Sta. Barbara, Bañaga River in Bugallon, Bued River in San Fabian, and Camiling River, also stayed above normal levels.
