A 26-year-old rider allegedly involved in a drag race in General Santos City died after the motorcycle he was driving crashed into a tricycle.

According to the Traffic Enforcement Unit (TEU) of the General Santos City Police Office, the tricycle was turning left at an intersection in Barangay Katanggawan when it was hit from behind by the motorcycle.

“Katung pagkahitabua daw, mitabok para ana diri tabok daw, kay ibilin ang motor dira sa pikas. So karon naabtan man sa single motor, mao tung nabanggan sa lubot,” the tricyle driver’s brother, Jumadil Sandigan, said.

The impact threw the rider off the motorcycle and he died on the spot.

The tricycle driver and his four passengers sustained injuries and were brought to the hospital for treatment.

TEU added that the motorcycle was running at high speed and was allegedly participating in a drag race at that time.

“Based sa pamilya na nagpunta rito, yung anak nila is involved po sa drag racing,” TEU Deputy Chief, Capt. Lamberto Rabino, Jr., said.

“Huwag sanang gawing karerahan ang kalsada sapagkat ito ay para sa lahat ng motorista. Tandaan po sana natin ang maling liko ay maaaring ikamatay ng iba or driver mismo,” Rabino added.

All parties involved are set to meet for a possible settlement.
