Cagayan province and the town of Pagudpud in Ilocos Norte were placed under a state of calamity after Super Typhoon #NandoPH left widespread destruction to homes, crops, and infrastructure.
In Sta. Ana, Cagayan, many houses of Indigenous Peoples’ communities were destroyed. Residents said they could not repair their homes because their income was only enough for food.
“Wala kaming pambili ng gamit sa bahay, malaking tulong kung may ibigay sa amin na ipambili namin ng materyales sa bahay namin,” Jerry Concepcion, a resident affected by the typhoon, said.
In Gonzaga, Cagayan, Elizabeth Carillo said they were forced to tie down their roof for fear of another storm hitting their area.
“Dagiti balay mi haan pay safe, ta nangato ti daluyon,” she said.
Governor Edgar Aglipay of Cagayan announced that the provincial government allocated P20 million from its savings this year for Calayan, the hardest-hit town.
“May savings kami for this year na 20 million pesos ibigay namin sa Calayan, tapos next year ‘yung sa QRF namin magbigay kami ng 30 million para maging 50 million sa Calayan,” he said.
In Pagudpud, Ilocos Norte, the local government reported damages of P4.8 million in agriculture and P207.5 million in infrastructure, with 631 houses damaged.
The declaration of a state of calamity allowed immediate relief assistance for affected residents.
