At least 26 families were displaced while a school building was razed in separate fire incidents in Zamboanga City.

A fire broke out at a school building of the Western Mindanao University main campus in Barangay Baliwasan around 5 a.m. on Tuesday, September 30, 2025.

The fire was raised to second alarm before it was put out past 6 a.m.

According to the Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP), among the structures affected were the CLA Building-College Student Board and Psych Lab, as well as CLA Rooms 23, 21, and 20.

The damage to properties was estimated at more than P3.5 million.

Face-to-face classes in the building affected have been suspended temporarily.

Authorities are still investigating the cause of the fire.

Meanwhile, at least 26 families were displaced after a fire hit a residential area in Barangay Tumaga on Monday, September 29.

According to the local government, the fire broke out around 11:23 a.m. and spread quickly.

One structure was also damaged while two vehicles were destroyed before firefighters were able to put out the fire.

No one was reported hurt in the incident.

The local government added that witnesses suspect the fire may have been caused by a heated charger or gasoline, but authorities are still investigating.

Mayor Khymer Olaso directed the City Social Welfare and Development Office (CSWDO) to deliver immediate assistance to the families affected, which included three senior citizens, a person with disability, and 20 children.
