A large sinkhole was found on a rice field in an upland barangay of San Juan town, Province of Siquijor.
The sinkhole was found on a rice field in Sitio Pilapil, Barangay Napô.
Personnel of the San Juan Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office visited the area immediately and cordoned it off with a yellow barricade line to warn individuals from crowding in the area and avoid possible mishaps.
On September 26, 2025, municipal personnel checked the area again, along with barangay officials. They barred netizens who have started suggesting that the area be marked a tourist destination.
According to San Juan Mayor Rubilyn Maata Ragay, the Local Government Unit (LGU)’s assessment on the location is ongoing to determine which areas have remained suitable for farming without significant obstacles, or high risks.
Local officials visited a few residents nearby to warn them of the hazards that the sinkhole poses.
