Cebu Archbishop Alberto (Abet) Uy emphasized his advocacy against corruption during his canonical installation as the new shepherd of the Archdiocese of Cebu.
Uy, installed as fifth Archbishop of Cebu on Tuesday, September 30, 2025, called on fervent prayers for truth to prevail in the investigation of the controversial flood control projects in the country.
In an interview with members of Cebu media, Uy vowed he is with the Cebuanos in seeking justice in line with deemed massive corruption in the implementation of flood control projects.
"As the new archbishop, I told the Cebuanos that I am with them in our advocacy against any form of corruption. We really need to pray because right now it is difficult to see who is telling the truth. A lot of our people are really, [seemingly] helpless because they do not know who is telling the truth. It is important that we need to pray," Uy underscored.
The Installation Mass was celebrated at the Cebu Metropolitan Cathedral.
A Holy Mass was presided by Most Reverend Charles John Brown, Apostolic Nuncio to the Philippines, followed by the appointment of Uy.
Aside from Brown, Roman Catholic Church leaders, bishops, and priests attended the rite of the Solemn Possesion and Installation of Uy.
Cardinal Luis Antonio Tagle, prefect of the Congregation for the Evangelization of Peoples, delivered the homily.
Believers swarmed the Cebu Metropolitan Cathedral both inside and outside, along with Local Government Unit (LGU) officials of towns and cities in Cebu.
Uy thanked the Cebuano community for the warm welcome accorded him as new shepherd of the Archdiocese of Cebu.
