Local governments in northern Cebu have reported injuries while content shared online showed damage to structures following the magnitude 6.9 earthquake that struck that part of Cebu Island late evening on September 30, 2025.
As of this writing, the number of people affected remains unclear as response and rescue efforts continue.
In a post on its Facebook page, Bogo City where the quake’s epicenter was traced said it has activated its Incident Command System (ICS) and has deployed emergency responders and personnel with emergency training to areas affected and to other priority areas.
It continues to coordinate with barangays and response teams for assessment and immediate action.
“Kabalo mi nga lisod ang atuang nasinati ug kahimtang sa pagkakaron, pero dili mo namo pasagdan. Dia ra kami. Magtinabangay kita. Palihug, pabilin nga kalma.Ipatigbabaw ang pag-ampo,” the city government’s post reads.
A video has shown a branch of a fast food chain in the city was damaged severely.
In Tabogon town, many residents were rescued and treated at the town infirmary, as shown in photos posted on the town’s Facebook page.
Medical personnel, emergency responders, and volunteers have provided immediate care to the injured and affected, according to municipal government.
The LGU said it will continue to work with other health and response units.
Also in its Facebook page, the town of San Remigio said the earthquake caused “widespread damage and disruption to the lives of our constituents.”
It said it will place the town under a state of calamity.
“In view of the recent 6.7 magnitude earthquake that hit the Municipality of San Remigio, Cebu, causing widespread damage and disruption to the lives of our constituents, the Honorable Municipal Mayor, pending an emergency session of the 28th Sangguniang Bayan, hereby advises the public of the intention to declare a State of Calamity in the municipality.”
The declaration of a state of calamity “aims to facilitate immediate response and relief efforts, including the mobilization of resources, provision of assistance to affected communities, and implementation of measures to prevent further harm.”
In Daanbantayan town, the Archdiocesan Shrine of Santa Rosa de Lima was also damaged severely. Several reports have also said that roads leading to the town have been impassable.
For her part, Cebu Governor Pamela Baricuatro asked all local governments in the province to be proactive and to tend to residents.
She said she and other concerned officials and personnel of Capitol will head to northern Cebu to check on the situation in the areas there.
The earthquake, which was reported initially at magnitude 6.7, was also felt in other parts of Cebu and the Visayas.
In Metro Cebu, patients from hospitals had to be brought out of the facilities following the quake.
