Most Reverend Alberto Sy Uy, the newly installed Archbishop of Cebu, spent his first day in the post visiting churches in northern Cebu damaged by the magnitude 6.9 earthquake.

According to the Cebu Archdiocese, he visited at least three parishes in Daanbantayan town where he also met with parish priests and pastoral councils.

He visited the Archdiocesan Shrine and Parish of Sta. Rosa de Lima and met with the parish priest, Rev. Fr. Randy Nebria.

The church of the Archdiocesan Shrine of Santa Rosa de Lima, a heritage landmark, is among those damaged heavily when the earthquake struck northern Cebu late evening on September 30, 2025, it's epicenter traced off Bogo City.

Uy also went to the San Miguel Parish in Tapilon where he met with Rev. Fr. Lucio Rosaroso, Jr., the parish priest.

At the San Isidro Labrador Parish in Maya, he spoke with the parish priest, Rev. Fr. Wilfredo Castillo.

"May the Archbishop’s presence remind the faithful that they are not alone in this trial, as he assures them of his prayers and the support of the whole Church," the Archdiocese said.

Shortly after the quake struck, the Cebu Archdiocese issued an advisory asking parishes in northern Cebu affected by the earthquake not to use the churches to celebrate Mass until such time that they are declared safe to use.
