Residents of Barangay Canitoan, Cagayan de Oro City are seeing improvements on a damaged road more than two months since it was reported on GMA Regional TV One Mindanao.
What was once chaotic traffic at the muddy road has become more orderly because of the flagmen deployed by the contractors of the road reblocking project.
The most problematic section of the road in Zone 1 is also being addressed as one side has already been concreted.
The Department of Public Works and Highways-Northern Mindanao (DPWH-10) said the other side is also set for concreting, but recent heavy rains caused delays.
A store owner nearby expressed gratitude that the project is now progressing.
“Dili pareha atong ni agi nga halos kung ting init wala kung ting ulan ayha pa bali karon ok na naay usahay pag ulan mapundo na pud sila,” a resident, Joven Balaba, said.
DPWH-10 said the target completion date of the project is October 2025, but the timeline has been pushed back due to persistent rains and damage to water pipes belonging to the Cagayan de Oro Water District (COWD).
Barangay Chairman, Lancelot Padla, assured residents that the project is being fast-tracked and will soon be completed.
“Hapit naman gyud ni mahuman hinaut atong sabton ug taasan nato atong paghatag ug pagsabot kay mahuman ra gyud kini kung tugutan sa panahon nga wala nay ulan basin karong bulana,” Padla said.
