Cracks are apparent on walls and comfort rooms of the Iloilo Provincial Capitol based on a structural assessment conducted morning on Wednesday, October 1, 2025.

Most of the cracks are found on the fifth and sixth floors of the building.

According to the Iloilo Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (PDRRMO), assessment was made both on old and new cracks after the magnitude 6.9 earthquake that struck Bogo City, Cebu jolted areas in Iloilo as well evening on September 30, 2025.

“Those who have four to five storeys buildings, i-ensure muna ang structural integrity. Ang mga municipal engineers, individually, private or public buildings should be inspected,” said Cornelio Salinas, head of Iloilo PDRRMO.

Despite the condition, government work resumed afternoon on October 1, 2025.

Based on the assessment, the Iloilo Provincial Capitol has no structural defect.

Further, the Iloilo City Hall opened its normal operation at 10 a.m. on October 1, 2025 after an assessment of the Office of the Building Official (OBO) assured that the building is safe and sound, as well as the adjacent Legislative building.

“Syempre para safe naman kami. Nandito na ang OBO, so dapat safe kami dahil nandito sila,” Millie Tan, an employee, said.

Meanwhile, a Rapid Visual Assessment was conducted by the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) 6 on a few buildings, churches, bridges, and other structures in Western Visayas, including the controversial Ungka and Aganan flyovers.

“We’ll be making urgent recommendation if needed… (kapag may) makita tayong structural defects na serious that will warrant na i-discontinue ang use muna ng building na yan or structure, we will do it,” Engr. Jose Al Fruto, officer in charge of DPWH 6.

Face-to-face classes in 46 local government units (LGUs) in the region were suspended affecting over 400,000 learners from 1,120 schools in Western Visayas. The classes shifted to the Alternative Delivery Mode (ADM).

“Based on the information coming from our DRRM focal person sa regional office, ongoing ang assessment as we speak sa ating facilities sa paaralan at tanggapan,” Hernani Escullar, Department of Education 6 spokesperson, said.

In addition, over 100,000 students shifted to ADM in the Province of Negros Occidental.

Moreover, the Visayas grid is placed under Yellow alert because of forced outages of 27 power plants.

“We had like mga limang transmission lines in Panay that were temporarily out. All of which went out at exactly the same time paglindol, 10 p.m. last night. Ang last feeder went back at around 12:06 midnight,” said Reagahn Alcantara, lead specialist of Public Relations Department of the National Grid Corporation of the Philippines Visayas.

On the other hand, Alcantara said that the Visayas grid has a capacity of 1,888 megawatts that can supply enough power.
