The Bangsamoro Government has condemned the killing of a Teduray tribe leader in Datu Hofer Ampatuan, Maguindanao del Sur on Tuesday, September 30, 2025.
In a statement, the Bangsamoro government described the killing of Ramon Lupos, a non-Moro Indigenous Peoples (NMIP) leader and a member of the Teduray Tribe, as “barbaric” and “treacherous.”
“This act of inhumanity is an affront to peace, justice, and human dignity. Walang puwang ang ganitong uri ng karahasan sa Bangsamoro. We extend our deepest condolences to his family and the entire Teduray community. The Bangsamoro Government stands firmly with our Indigenous Peoples in their continuing call for justice and lasting peace,” the statement reads.
Police found the body of Lupos in Sitio Kulab, Barangay Limpongo around 4:30 p.m. under still unclear circumstances.
Bangsamoro Chief Minister Abdulraof Macacua has directed law enforcement and security agencies to conduct a thorough investigation, bring the perpetrators to justice, and ensure that IP communities in the region are protected.
“This tragedy comes as the nation marks October as Indigenous Peoples Month – a time to honor their resilience and contributions. Instead, we are reminded of the injustices they still endure,” the statement said.
