A 17-year-old rider died after he was run over by a mini dump truck in Barangay Bato, Davao City.

Based on investigation, the victim was traveling on Upper Piedad when he reportedly attempted to overtake the dump truck that was traveling on his right.

During the maneuver, the rider’s handlebar struck a pedestrian walking by the highway.

Because of the impact, the motorcycle fell, and the rider was run over by the truck’s rear wheel. He was rushed to the hospital but was declared dead on arrival.

The truck driver was taken into police custody.

Authorities said charges may be filed depending on the decision of the victim’s family.

The Davao City Police Office (DCPO) reminded parents to monitor and guide strictly minors who are driving motorcycles, stressing the dangers of allowing underage or individuals without license on the road.

Hazel Caballero Tuazon, said.
