A man was stabbed to death by a fellow passenger inside a public utility jeepney (PUJ) in Barangay Patag, Cagayan de Oro City on Sunday, October 5, 2025.

Police said the victim had come from fishing in Barangay Bayabas and boarded a jeepney on his way home. He took the front seat.

The suspect was already reportedly in the jeepney when the victim boarded.

When the jeepney reached Barangay Patag, the suspect stabbed the victim suddenly, causing the victim him to fall off the vehicle. He died on the spot.

“Una nakasakay ang suspect sa Barangay Bulua sa terminal, nagsakay pud dayon ang biktima sa front seat…. suddenly, in surprise, gidunggab niya,” Police Station 4 Commander, Major Peter Tajor, said.

The suspect, identified by witnesses as the victim’s friend and neighbor, was arrested later at his house in Barangay Carmen.

Police also learned that the suspect was in the same area where the victim was fishing earlier that day.

“Natuntun gyud namo siya didto sa terminal sa may landfill didto namo siya nakita na surprise siya nga nag follow na ang pulis sa iya,” Tajor said.

The suspect may face murder charges.
